Walkthrough
- After accepting the mission from the Gate Guard, travel to King Ranperre's Tomb and touch the Tombstone at I-10 to get a cutscene.
- Kill Ding Bats on the Tomb's area at night (18:00-6:00) until one drops some Orcish Mail Scales.
- I can confirm that any bat between the two distinct tunnels can drop them. It does not need to be a bat that appears by the grave.
- Once you have activated the cutscene, and obtained the Orcish Mail Scales return to the gate guard and trade him the Orcish Mail Scales for your reward.
- This mission is repeatable. Starting with the second time on the mission, the gate guard will ask you to trade a Bat Fang to complete the mission. It is not necessary to rezone between repetitions.
Notes
- To save time and effort, get the quest Grave Concerns from Andecia in Southern San d'Oria at (M-7) before you go on the mission.

Script
Bat Hunt - Gatehouse, San d'Oria San d'Orian Gate Guard: Have you ever set foot into King Ranperre's Tomb? San d'Orian Gate Guard: Two hundred years ago, the curtain fell on the golden age of San d'Oria. Civil war erupted over the kingdom's hegemony.
San d'Orian Gate Guard: King Ranperre was there to extinguish the conflict. When he died he was interred in a great tomb south of East Ronfaure.
San d'Orian Gate Guard: But unknown hands have defiled his grave of late.
San d'Orian Gate Guard: Visitors report missing gravestones and shadows twisting in the caverns. Ravaging a royal tomb is an unforgivable crime!
San d'Orian Gate Guard: Your orders are to investigate the tomb and determine if there is any truth to what they say. Do you understand?
("I accept.")
San d'Orian Gate Guard: I implore you to make haste to King Ranperre's Tomb. You may find proof of grave-robbers there.
San d'Orian Gate Guard: But wander too deeply within, and Goblins might find you. Tread boldly, my friend, but do not go in over your head!
Bat Hunt - Tombstone, King Ranperre's Tomb (As you near the tombstone, you hear footsteps approaching and duck behind the tombstone to avoid detection.) Rochefogne: Hm...
Rochefogne: King Ranperre... It is I, Rochefogne. Does Your Majesty not remember me?
Rochefogne: Often in youth did I hear stories of Your Majesty's glorious reign. I longed to grow into a man like the great Dragon King, Ranperre.
Rochefogne: Try though I did, I have failed. I have lost everything, even the most sacred of possessions.
Rochefogne: I...
Rochefogne: Your Majesty, please tell me. Whence has the sword disappeared? Did you dismiss it?
Rochefogne: Hmm...
(You are discovered and step from behind the tombstone.)
Rochefogne: Who is there!?
Rochefogne: Just an adventurer, are you? In search of tomb-robbers?
Rochefogne: Well...
Rochefogne: Yes, of late many of the cairns are missing.
Rochefogne: Who could it be, and for what end? Wait, could the sword be here?
(Suddenly, another Elvaan man appears behind Rochefogne.)
Vauderame: Say not another word, Rochefogne!
Vauderame: Adventurer, look no further than bats for your proof of tomb-robbing. Whoever came left much before departing.
Vauderame: Come, Rochefogne. We go.
(Rochefogne and Vauderame depart together.)
Bat Hunt - Gatehouse, San d'Oria (After getting the Orcish Mail Scales and trading them to the San d'Orian Gate Guard) San d'Orian Gate Guard: So, you got this from bats in King Ranperre's Tomb?
San d'Orian Gate Guard: You see, this actually belonged to an Orc. What could Orcs want with the tomb?
San d'Orian Gate Guard: At any rate, your mission is over. Speak not a word of this to another.
