- Special Attacks: normal Coeurl attacks, Blink of Peril (reduces HP to very low level, gaze-based and causes the NM to die a few seconds after use). Does NOT wipe utsusemi shadows.
- Absorbs thunder damage.
- Seems to be a 1 hour or longer lottery spawn.
Notes
- Spawns at K-7 or K-8. Lottery spawn from the Lynxes near the road.
- Placeholder is a Lynx that can spawn at K-7 or K-8. The widescan list appears as follows: Diving Beetle, Sauromugue Skink, Sauromugue Skink, Lynx, Lynx, Scavenging Hound (at night only), Lynx, Lynx, Lynx, Lynx, Sauromugue Skink, Lynx, Lynx (<--This is the PH), Hill Lizard, Hill Lizard.
- If indeed Balam-Quitz has a placeholder, he spawned in the center (K-7) from one of the four Lynx that does not spawn on elevated ground.
- When its HP falls very low, it will spontaneously erase all debuffs and use Blink of Peril, even if it used a weapon skill immediately before this point.
- Not too much more difficult than the Lynx around that area. Easilly soloable by Level 75, but care must be taken for Blink of Peril used at very low HP (Saving TP to kill from ~10% advisable).
- Seems to become invincible for a few seconds when it reaches 1% HP, then it will use Blink of Peril and fall to the ground a few seconds later.
- Thunder element magic seems to heal and bestow Enthunder on the NM.
Historical Background
In Maya mythology, B'alam referred to any of a group of jaguar gods who protected people and communities against threats. B'alam Quitz ("jaguar with the sweet smile") was the first of the men created from maize after the Great Flood sent by Hurakan. The gods created Caha-Paluma specifically for him to marry.
