Historical Background[]
Auster was the Roman personification, as well as the Latin and English word, for the South Wind. Auster was the bringer of the hot and powerful southern winds called Sirocco. This is a Mediterranean wind that originates from the Sahara which reach hurricane speeds from North Africa through Southern Europe. These powerful and very damaging winds logically links him with the element of wind. Auster was one of the four Venti which were the Wind Gods. Despite their different names the Venti were almost identical to the Greek wind gods The Anemoi. The Greek counterpart for Auster was Notus. Items associated with Auster are the Sirocco Kukri and the Sirocco Axe.
