Description[]
Aftermath is a beneficial status effect applied upon using one of the weapon/job specific Weapon Skills with a Relic Weapon (or Stage 4 Weapon in Dynamis areas), a Mythic Weapon, or an Empyrean Weapon equipped.
Aftermath has varying effects and duration, depending on the type of weapon and the user's TP upon using the associated Weapon Skill. Relic weapons each have a unique effect associated with each weapon, whereas Mythic and Empyrean weapons all share similar effects within their classification of weaponry.
Both the proper weapon and the proper weapon skill must be used together to create an Aftermath effect. Using either one without the other will not create Aftermath.
- For example: The relic weapon Excalibur allows the use of Knights of Round, the sword relic Weapon Skill. Using these together will create Aftermath. Excalibur may also be used to perform other sword Weapon Skills, but no Aftermath will result from this. Similarly, the Corbenic Sword allows its bearer to perform Knights of Round, but since it is not a relic weapon, no Aftermath will result from this either.
The Aftermath status icon appears for the duration of the effect and does stack with spells and other effects.
Aftermath effects will "overwrite" themselves to restore their remaining duration if the appropriate Weapon Skill is performed again while Aftermath is still in effect. However, in the case of Empyrean weapons, a new Aftermath will not overwrite a preexisting Aftermath if the new Aftermath is at a lower level than the preexisting one.
The Aftermath effect immediately wears off if any weaponry is equipped, switched, or unequipped, whether this is done by the player or caused by an enemy or other gameplay mechanic. (In short, if an equipment change would cause your TP to reset to zero, it will also remove Aftermath.) Switching ammunition is permitted, along with equipping any ammo that is incompatible with your currently equipped ranged weapon (which will cause the ranged weapon to be automatically removed).
- For example: You are using a Raider's Boomerang (a ranged weapon) to TP in and you switch to Qirmiz Tathlum (an ammunition item) to WS. If you switch back to Raider's Boomerang after the WS, the Aftermath effect WILL wear off.
The Aftermath effects, along with the weaponry and WS required to activate them, are as follows:

Prime Aftermath[]
Weaponskills granted by Prime Weapons give Physical Damage Limit bonuses, an increase of the pDIF cap that benefits an attack-capped player's total damage against a target. The potency and duration of these bonuses vary with the expended TP. This Aftermath appears on Stage 3 and higher Prime Weapons, and early testing has produced these values.[1]
TP | Effect Potency | Duration |
---|---|---|
1000 | Physical Damage Limit +2% | 60 seconds |
2000 | Physical Damage Limit +5% | 120 seconds |
3000 | Physical Damage Limit +8% | 180 seconds |
The potency of the effect scales between the TP thresholds, e.g. you get more than +2% PDL at 1600 TP.
