A Bard's Tale

A story of self, and a search for a purpose, this is one Bard's tale..

Theme music while writing story:

Lenna's Theme Piano Version, Nobuo Uematsu

Upon the highest point in Lufaise Meadows, overlooking a vast valley of pale blue waters and deep emerald trees, a fragile figure stood, still shaking from the sight of some of the most magnificent beasts in Vana'diel he had seen moments before. A single teardrop fell to it's fate far below, just another ripple in the rushing waters.

Skavian gazed upward to what had been a sunny, beautiful sky not moments ago, only to see enormous gray clouds billowing ahead, blotting out the sun. In the distance, thunder echoed, a storm was coming, this much the man knew, but it did not seem to phase him. Withdrawing from his pack a small wooden harp, he began to play a soft melody that carried on the winds, his voice just as soothing as the song..

Some tell tales
of our forgotten heroes
and the evils long buried
beneath our feet
but so few dare
to spin their songs
about the storytellers
who always remain unseen
those who dedicate each breath
to continue the story of the last
so today, others do not suffer
the mistakes of our past

So listen to what
I have to say
the true story of
true heroes
those who we forget
each and every day

I tell the tale
of the lost and wandering
forever traveling, always
wondering
will anyone ever hear
my song, and sing
a melody pure and true
about the life of me and you
will a day come, where the
noble knights
and learned sorcerers
will tell a tale of those
who sacrificed their
strength and might
to carry the tale of life
the true life of Vana'diel

Will anyone remember,
the melodies sung during
heated battle
the mystic strings
empowering mind and soul
giving courage and hope
to even the big and small

Will anyone remember
the last of true heart..

For some time,
I was lost, having forgotten
my purpose
myself
but I am here to tell
tell you something honest
that I am here to stay
I have finally come home

I promise you,
that I will carry our song
to each edge of our world
and I will never forget
that we Bards,
are the true spirit
the true story of Vana'diel..

As the song ended, and it's last notes began to drift away into the horizon, it began to rain. Lightning illuminated the clouds, then struck again, and Skavian was astonished to find, far above in the sky, dancing with the bolts of lightning, tiny specs of maginificent dragons soared against the dark-gray clouds..

"At least some will remember our song," with a sigh, Skavian slid his harp into it's leather bindings and pulled his white cloak about his face to mask himself against the winds, turning his back to the distant beasts, who swooped in and dove in the air..

And as if they understood his tale, far above, the dragons let out a great roar.. a roar that echoed along with a song, echoed far and distant across Vana'diel...
