Behemoths
Behemoths are a mysterious and solitary family of monsters in Vana'diel. Only a few are known to exist, and those that do are only rarely seen by adventurers. A sizable monster, several times the average height of a hume, behemoths can require a large party to defeat. Nevertheless, the rewards can be worth the effort. The hide of a behemoth, though requiring an advanced leathercrafter to manipulate, is used in a number of notable armor sets, including the Dusk Jerkin Set and the Unicorn Harness Set. The tongue of a behemoth is a highly prized items for Monks looking to obtain a Black Belt. Because of the notorious nature of these monsters, they also often carry rare and exclusive weapons and armor pieces, including the widely acclaimed Defending Ring.

Historical Background[]
Behemoth is the name of a creature mentioned in the Bible, Book of Job, 40:15-24 (King James Version):
15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16 Lo now, his strength [is] in his loins, and his force [is] in the navel of his belly.
17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
18 His bones [are as] strong pieces of brass; his bones [are] like bars of iron.
19 He [is] the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach [unto him].
20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22 The shady trees cover him [with] their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, [and] hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
24 He taketh it with his eyes: [his] nose pierceth through snares.
The word is most likely a plural form of בהמה (bəhēmāh ("animal")). It may be an example of pluralis excellentiae, a Hebrew method of expressing greatness by pluralizing a noun; it thus indicates that Behemoth is the largest and most powerful animal.
