@InquisitiveSpouse For this specific issue, I'd like to direct you to Fandom's support team because they might be able to help you better than I can. Here's the contact form: https://fandom.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000940393
If you'd like to read on the reasons for the new skin and some of its design choices, click here. We didn't decide on this out of nowhere; the last time the skin was changed was in 2010 and we've been developing this new skin for months, probably closing in on a year at this point actually.
The new font is called Rubik, and it's the same font being used here in Discussions. This font was selected specifically because of its readability. If you can read and post in Discussions just fine, then you can read the wiki just fine.
I'd love to hear what difficulty you're having with navigation on the new skin. What are you trying to do that you're finding more difficult?
@NewDefect The new layout has a name, it's called FandomDesktop. If you're describing your editing experience in the new desktop experience, that's what that is. That issue sounds like syntax highlighting is turned on; try turning it off while in the editor and see if that fixes it. (If you're talking about mobile editing, that's a different story altogether.)
@Glenwo2 Please keep in mind that the Oasis theme will be removed at some point soon. FandomDesktop will be the only desktop skin going forward.
@Snorglepuss The option to disable syntax highlighting is in the editor. I'm not sure which editor you're using, but there's a button in the top toolbar in the editor to disable it.
For what it's worth, it's a common feature on MediaWiki wikis, but it comes with its host of problems, so it's definitely something we're talking about internally as an issue.
You can't change or assign shortcuts at this time. "?" is the shortcut for the shortcut help box; you can also access this by clicking "Shortcuts" in the Quick Bar in the bottom-right on FandomDesktop.
I can also confirm Toast's bug ticket for the search keyboard shortcut is filed 👍
This new theme is going to be the default and only theme soon. If you're having issues, it would help if you describe the issues you're having. Just saying it "messes with me" or that it's "atrocious" isn't helpful.
@InquisitiveSpouse If you're trying to access the search bar by using a keyboard shortcut, you need to ensure which keyboard shortcuts you have enabled by checking Special:Preferences.
@ShiyoKozuki There is a button at the top-left of every page, and a setting in Special:Preferences, to expand the content area width.
@NewDefect That sounds like you're editing with syntax highlighting turned on. Try turning it off.
