I understand that a lot of people use tablets/iPads, phones while searching and reading on "Fandom." It's nice to have cross platform functionality. I use all platforms. But I feel bombarded with useless "Beauty." To me FFXIclopedia is just that, an "encyclopedia." A place to search up an item, mission, quest, or notorious monster. This morning my significant other asked me if what he was battling was a notorious monster. Being the patient spouse I open FFXIclopedia from my shortcut, and just stare at the screen .............. Oh, maybe I have to find a mouse to use now because tab and "/" don't open the search bar? Which search widget is the search area for just FFXIclopedia? I don't want to select something and get sent to "you may be interested in this/that/the other thing." I already know what I want to find and it's on FFXIclopedia. Maybe, have the cursor default AS the search for FFXIclopedia. If I want to go elsewhere after I get the information I was expecting to find, then I'll select all the other stuff on the sidebar? I feel trapped in the children's story, "If You give a Mouse a Cookie."
I can't even use the edit feature on my USERPAGE place the courser on a line you think you're gonna edit? WRONG! You're actually gonna be editing 4 lines up and 6 characters to the right!
@InquisitiveSpouse If you're trying to access the search bar by using a keyboard shortcut, you need to ensure which keyboard shortcuts you have enabled by checking Special:Preferences.
@ShiyoKozuki There is a button at the top-left of every page, and a setting in Special:Preferences, to expand the content area width.
@NewDefect That sounds like you're editing with syntax highlighting turned on. Try turning it off.
Going to try setting "Special:Preferences". Thank you for the information. When these updates are implemented, is there a place that will show someone like me, an uneducated in tech., were to find something that the educated in tech., take for granted as global knowledge?

If anything's looking different specifically, please lmk.
@ShiyoKozuki Presuming that you're logged in, the only ad you should see is on the Main Page. Under "My Preferences" first tab "User profile" scroll down to the "Appearance" section at the bottom and the "Ads" drop-down and choose the "Don't show all ads" option, then Save.
@InquisitiveSpouse also, I've been using this site for 15 years and I didn't even know there were keyboard shortcuts, so I think you're more tech then me! :)
I have confirmed that keyboard shortcuts for search aren't working and opened a ticket with Fandom's tech support about the search shortcut issue. They're usually pretty responsive.
Aaak, alright, I see in preferences that my default is "fandom" for short cuts. I went to the community portal and couldn't find what the shortcuts actually are. IE: tab, /, ^ and what each one will do, or how I would assign for myself.
You can't change or assign shortcuts at this time. "?" is the shortcut for the shortcut help box; you can also access this by clicking "Shortcuts" in the Quick Bar in the bottom-right on FandomDesktop.
I can also confirm Toast's bug ticket for the search keyboard shortcut is filed 👍
And how does one go about turning syntax highlighting off? I have been unable to find it. This doesn't seem to have been tested very well, since, as far as I can tell, it doesn't work, at least not on this wiki. Why would something like this that messes up formatting on some wikis be a default setting for all wikis?
I can't say I've noticed any specific problems with syntax highlighting, but then again I don't make much use of the embedded editor. For any significant edits my workflow starts in an external text editor, then copy/paste/preview until things look the way I want it to.
What do you think?
